On Friday, 4th April 2025, Chemsolv Limited, an indigenous Ghanaian company with operations across Sub-Saharan Africa and a leading supplier of chemicals and related services to Ghana’s oil, gas, and energy sectors, has commissioned a fully renovated and refurbished science laboratory for Prince of Peace Girls’ Senior High School in Kumasi.

This impactful initiative is part of Chemsolv’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agenda, which is centered on education, community upliftment, and youth empowerment.

The project, which began six months ago, involved a complete overhaul of the school’s outdated science lab. Chemsolv invested in cutting-edge laboratory equipment, upgraded infrastructure, and enhanced safety systems to create a modern, practical learning environment for the students. The refurbished lab is expected to significantly boost the teaching and learning of core science subjects—Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics—and to inspire more young women to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

During the commissioning ceremony, Boahemaa Ohene-Agyei, External Affairs Lead at Chemsolv, delivered a heartfelt speech outlining the company’s motivation for undertaking the project:

“As a company whose operations are deeply rooted in science and mathematics, this project reflects our core values. We believe that investing in the education of young girls, especially in science, helps shape a brighter and more inclusive future. This laboratory is not just a facility—it’s a seed of opportunity and transformation.”

In a further bid to encourage academic excellence, Chemsolv announced a special incentive—a cash prize of GHS 3,000 each to be awarded to the best-performing students in Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, and Physics for the 2025 academic year. This gesture aims to reward hard work and inspire young girls to aim higher in the sciences.

The ceremony was graced by key dignitaries, including Mrs Mary Juliet Antwi Kyeremeh, Headmistress of Prince of Peace Girls’ SHS, and Mr. David Oppong, Ashanti Region Metro Director of Education, as well as members of staff, students, and invited guests. The atmosphere was filled with joy and appreciation as students expressed their excitement about learning in a modern, well-equipped facility.

Mrs. Antwi Kyeremeh conveyed her sincere gratitude to Chemsolv for the timely intervention and emphasized the long-term positive impact this facility would have on science education at the school. Mr. David Oppong lauded Chemsolv’s commitment to education and called on other corporate institutions to emulate such impactful collaborations.

The Chemsolv team was led by Managing Director Kakra Osei-Barnieh, General Manager Panyin Osei-Barnieh, and External Affairs Lead Boahemaa Ohene-Agyei, who were all present to officially commission the project and engage with the school community.

This initiative adds to Chemsolv’s growing portfolio of community development efforts, underscoring the company’s unwavering belief in education as a powerful tool for national development and social transformation. Through initiatives like this, Chemsolv continues to set a standard for responsible corporate citizenship and meaningful impact.
